Astros’ Second Baseman Jose Altuve Relies on Faith: ‘We Need To Not Just Ask God But Thank Him’

The Houston Astros are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 World Series at one game each.
It is the fifth World Series appearance for the Astros, who made it in 2005, 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Astros second baseman Jose Altuve hopes to lead the team to their second World Series win. However, Altuve is adamant that his faith is the most important part of his life.
“I grew up in a family that always told me that to achieve success, we needed to have God first,” Altuve told Chron in 2016. “To achieve success wasn’t to get to the major leagues or have the best season in the world. The best success is to live your life the way God wants you to. If you can do that, if you can be good with God, then I think you will have success in your life.”
“We need to not just ask God but thank Him for everything like our health, our family,” Altuve added, “and ask him to bless our homes and to always be present in our daily lives, and to keep us safe is the most important.”
“We’re more than a team; we have a family,” Altuve said. “We all get along great and that’s really very important.”

Despite his success, many scouts said that the 5′ 6″ Altuve was too small to play baseball. Altuve turned to his faith in God instead of dwelling on the naysayers.
“I really wanted to do it, and if God gave me the ability to play, it was because he wanted me to go all the way through,” Altuve told CBN. “And I thank God for everything because he’s real. It’s hard to believe that what you dreamed as a kid is real life now.”
“Before I leave my house every single day, I ask God for health for my family and for me,” he told CBN Sports. “And then when I’m about to play the game I just pray and I ask God to keep every single player and every single people on the stands healthy and that we just can go there and compete in a good way.”
Altuve already has one World Series win under his belt, but Christ remains his No. 1 priority through it all.
“I think God has blessed me only because I let Him control everything that is around me,” he said. “My faith in Him and my love for him is just to not worry about just little things. It’s just to worry about my faith in Him and that way He’s going to put in order everything around me.”
