Bear Grylls Joins New Survival Series NO WAY BACK

By Movieguide® Contributor

Bear Grylls is teaming up with Talpa Studios for NO WAY BACK, a new survival series.

NO WAY BACK began airing in the Netherlands earlier this year. It follows a group of people making their way along a grueling Norwegian trail. The show has proven so popular that Talpa is shopping a U.S. version around to buyers.

“NO WAY BACK is a proven phenomenon and it’s easy to see why,” Grylls said in a statement about the show. “You mix adventure, hard cash and even harder decision making under pressure and you have the ingredients for drama. I’m excited and proud to be bringing this show to new territories and reminding global audiences that the wild takes away, but it also rewards. Get ready for the adventure.”

John De Mol, head of Talpa Studios, added, “Following the introduction of two successful quiz show formats in the U.S., we are excited to now bring NO WAY BACK, our new adventure reality format, to the world’s most significant TV market.”

“With NO WAY BACK, we are introducing a pioneering format to the global stage, underscored by our collaboration with Bear Grylls, an international phenomenon in the world of survival,” he continued. “Bear’s involvement, given his vast experience and the groundbreaking shows he has led, elevates this format to new heights, promising an unparalleled adventure for both participants and viewers.”

C21Media reported that NO WAY BACK is “the first to emerge from Talpa’s strategic partnership with Signal.Stream,” a partnership the companies announced last year.

“With their years of format knowledge and an extensive global network, Talpa Studios makes an ideal partner for Signal.Stream and their global ambitions,” a statement from Talpa Studios reads

Movieguide® previously reported on the parallels Grylls has seen between his Christian faith and testing his survival skills:

For survivalist and Christian Bear Grylls there are parallels between perseverance in the extreme outdoors and the need for faith through the challenges faced in everyday life.

“By testing myself and pushing myself to a place of being uncomfortable every time…whether I failed at it or succeeded, I’ve just grown and become much more evolved as a human being,” Cooper told Good Morning America.

It’s that “testing” that draws Grylls to these sometimes death-defying adventures that carryover to the trials of everyday life.

“There is an element, I think, of faith when we’re put under fire or we’re scared or we’re grieving or we’re facing some illness or whatever, and in a way those are the times when the fluff gets blown away and the religious stuff gets blown away and the really important stuff, which is, ‘I’m beside you, I will help you, I will hold you,’ which is what the message of faith is,” Grylls told CBN.
