Bellamy Young, THE WALTONS: HOMECOMING, SUPERMAN AND LOIS Take Home Top Movieguide® Honors
By Movieguide® Staff
Movieguide® Founder and Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr today announced the winners of Movieguide®’s Television Awards for Uplifting Entertainment.
THE WALTONS: HOMECOMING was selected for the Epiphany Prizes® for the television program that helps viewers draw closer to God. Bellamy Young, who starred in THE WALTONS: HOMECOMING, won the Grace Prize® for her performance.
“The show has meant so much to my family through the years,” Young said. “When [Producer] Sam Haskell, brought this up as an opportunity, I leapt at it in one of those moments where you sort of put the fear behind you and you’re like, ‘Well, I’ll face that fear later.’ Like this is too beautiful, a chance.”
According to the Movieguide® review, “HOMECOMING is a well-made, emotional, powerful, retro movie. It has a great sense of jeopardy. Even better is the family’s constant references to faith, Jesus, church, and powerful prayers.”
Dr. Baehr also selected SUPERMAN AND LOIS: Episode 101: “Pilot” as the winner of the Faith & Freedom® Award for Television.
“The first episode of SUPERMAN AND LOIS tells a gripping, engaging story. It also has a strong moral, redemptive worldview told through a compelling family narrative. The episode extols family, marriage, humility, truth, forgiveness, and knowing the difference between good and evil. The Kents listen to prayer and Scripture reading. Also, Clark tells his son how important church was to his father,” according to the Movieguide® review.
Both HOMECOMING and SUPERMAN AND LOIS aired on the CW Network.
“I am thrilled that such excellent programs are available on television and allow viewers to see how a faith-filled walk can overcome any obstacle,” Dr. Baehr said.
Dr. Baehr previously named the winners of the Movie categories in Movieguide®’s Movies That Inspire on the Reelz Channel, which aired Easter Sunday.
Each year, the Movieguide® team selects the very best in movies and television that honor faith and family values. Through decades of research, Dr. Baehr and his team have determined that programs that promote biblical values are more financially successful than programs that do not.
