
Beloved Actress Lynne Marie Stewart Dies at 78

Prolific actress Lynne Marie Stewart died at the age of 78 last Friday
With nearly 150 roles throughout her acting career, Stewart leaves a long legacy behind. She starred in some major hits including PEE-WEE’S PLAYHOUSE, AMERICAN GRAFFITI, THE RUNNING MAN and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. Though a cause of death is yet to be released, Stewart’s agent Bette Smith revealed the actress was fighting a tumor in her digestive tract.
“She was exhausted, so she went to see the doc,” Smith said, per Deadline. “They discovered she had a tumor between her liver and gallbladder. This was a shock. Lyne was the most talented actress. She loved her craft above everything.”
Stewart was beloved by both her fans and all of the actors that she has worked with throughout the years. Since the news of her death, many have paid her tribute, attesting to her wonderful character.
“My heart is breaking upon hearing the news of my dear friend @lynnestewart78 Lynne Stewart’s passing,” Stewart’s friend Cassandra Peterson wrote on an Instagram tribute. “One of the kindest, sweetest, funniest women who ever lived. The iconic Miss Yvonne of PEE-WEE’S PLAYHOUSE: She’ll always be ‘the most beautiful woman in Puppetland’.💔”
“RIP TV mom,” added Charlie Day, who worked with Stewart on IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, where she played his character’s mom. “You deserve a standing ovation. The brilliant and talented Lynne Marie Stewart. Rest in peace. Thank you for all the years of laughter.
A member of The Groundlings improv group, Stewart also received a tribute from the troupe, honoring her career.
“We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of our dear sweet Lynne Stewart,” the group wrote. “She wasn’t just the most beautiful woman in all of Puppetland – she was the most beautiful woman that we ever met, inside and out. Her warmth, humor and unforgettable presence lit up a room and brought joy to so, so many people. She will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine through the laughter and love she gave us all.”
