THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER may be the best Christmas movie ever.
The film reached No. 2 at the box office and grossed $11 million in its first weekend. During its opening day on Nov. 8, it scored the No. 1 spot and earned $5 million.
The holiday movie by THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins is based on a classic book by Barbara Robinson. It tells the story of “six siblings who sneak into church searching for snacks and walk away with the lead roles in the town pageant.”
CBN reported “The faith-based comedy opened in more than 3,000 theaters Friday and moviegoers are giving it high marks. It garnered an ‘A’ rating from CinemaScore, just missing the top mark of “A+.”

“This is a dream come true and the movie I’ve most wanted to make my whole career. And I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone other than Lionsgate and Kingdom, who make great movies while supporting filmmakers,” Jenkins said earlier this year.
The director hopes that the movie will remind people of the deeper meaning of Christmas.
“It’s trying to take the story of Christmas and story of Jesus and taking [it] down from stained glass windows and pretty paintings … and revealing what it actually is. And through the eyes of these kids, they actually do that,” he said.
Producer Kevin Downes believes this movie is for everyone.
“It’s for families and it’s to celebrate the Christmas experience,” he told Movieguide®, “see the nativity story in a way we’ve never witnessed it before, with all the laughs and the feel-good vibes but also the emotional moments, which I think are probably going to surprise people because, as you know, it’s hard to have laughter and tears and emotion all crammed together in one movie, but Dallas did a great job and kind of bringing those story elements in a way there. It is very good.”
The movie earned a +1 content rating from Movieguide®. with few “moderately questionable elements.” The review reads, ”

So, bring your tissues or handkerchief. THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER has a strong Christian, moral worldview. It extols Jesus, who transforms your life, love thy neighbor, and the true meaning of Christmas. There are some light profanities, but they’re rebuked. Also, the main message in THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER is anyone can experience God’s love and be transformed into a better person when they follow Jesus.
