Pro surfer Bethany Hamilton announced that her young nephew, Andrew, died after a drowning accident last week.
“The Lord has receive my sweet nephew Andrew into his beautiful care. While my family and I will miss him dearly, we trust that his joy is full with Jesus,” she wrote on Instagram.
She revealed that Andrew nearly drowned on Oct. 11.
“My precious nephew was medivaced to kapiolani in Oahu this morning after drowning last night. He still has a heartbeat and has fight in him,” Hamilton posted on Oct. 12. “We are wrecked.”
At the time, the family was seeking medical support. “The doctors have been amazing, and have made every change to his health care that we’ve asked for based on drowning research,” Andrew’s family wrote on his SupportNow page.
He succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 17. Andrew was 3 years old.
“It hurts terribly and we miss Andrew more than words can express,” his dad, Noah Hamilton, wrote. “But we do not mourn as those who have no hope. We rejoice in the certain hope of the glory of God, into whose name Andrew was baptized, whose precious blood washed Andrew clean and made him a child and heir of heaven.”
He cited 1 Corinthians 13:12: “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”
“Andrew sees Jesus as He is, face to face. He knows Jesus fully, even as he was fully known and loved by Jesus his whole life,” he concluded.
“Here is a prayer of faith that was prayed by my brother, and our whole family, this last week,” Bethany added. “This prayer paints so incredibly what it is to have faith. Faith is to trust that Gods will for our life is greater than our own. Thank you all for the love, prayers and support is this trying time.”
Keep the Hamilton family in your prayers as they mourn Andrew’s death.
