Blake Shelton Parenting: ‘I’m Always There’ For Stepsons

By Movieguide® Contributor

Blake Shelton is “always there” for his stepsons, “no matter what.”

“I’ve had step-parents,” Shelton said. “I think it’s, in some ways, harder, more difficult. I try to be careful about when to step back and be smart about when to step back and just talk, but no matter what, I’m always there if I’m needed.”

The country singer is stepdad to wife Gwen Stefani’s three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9.

He has previously spoken about his commitment to being a dad, telling PEOPLE, “If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.”

“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously,” Shelton continued. “The kids see me as a very important person in their life. [When they ask,] ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”

Shelton pointed to his own stepfather as a “good inspiration in my life for how to do this and the kind of stepdad I want to be,” adding that he is “serious” about his role as a stepparent.

“But I also have a blast with it, I’m not gonna lie,” the singer said. “I don’t take it so serious that I’m not enjoying this time because I really am, especially now that we’re five years into this thing. I can’t imagine my life without these kids now.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Shelton’s desire to spend more time with family:

Country singer Blake Shelton announced he will leave THE VOICE after this season to spend more time with his family.

Although THE VOICE has had many winners throughout the years, Shelton believes he has won “the ultimate prize” by meeting his wife. The two have shared that they are happiest together as a family at their ranch in Oklahoma.

“We get away from everything [in L.A.], and we’re just us,” Shelton said. “It truly does feel different. That’s where I feel the most comfortable, happy and safe.”

Along with finishing up season 23 of THE VOICE, Shelton is also currently on tour and hosting a celebrity game show BARMAGEDDON. While Shelton still has fun on the road with his band, he plans on limiting future travel for the sake of his family.

“The whole reason I’m even stepping away from THE VOICE is so I can just be there more, and that’s what I’m gonna do,” he said.
