Blake Shelton Returns to THE VOICE for Season Finale

Blake Shelton Returns to THE VOICE for Season Finale

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country music star Blake Shelton turned in his chair on THE VOICE for the final time during Season 23, but he’s about to make his return for the Season 25 finale.

Movieguide® reported on Shelton’s exit from the show:

After 12 years, Blake Shelton announced that he plans to retire as a judge on the popular singing competition series, THE VOICE, after next season.

In an Instagram post, the country star wrote:

I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season.

This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been [quite] a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.

This return is special for Shelton because he will be joined by other coach alums including Kelly Clarkson, CeeLo Green, Niall Horan, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, Adam Levine and Shelton’s wife, Gwen Stefani.

It hasn’t been announced yet in what capacity the coaches are returning.

“Previously, the ‘God’s Country’ singer told Entertainment Tonight that he would come back only if the show also managed to convince the other three original coaches as well,” American Songwriter reported. “And it looks like Shelton got his wish — almost. While season 1 coach Christina Aguilera is not scheduled to appear, Shelton’s two other original coaches — CeeLo Green and Adam Levine — will join him.”

During his time on THE VOICE, Shelton secured the title for the most wins, taking home the prize for nine of the 25 seasons.

Although he does not plan to go back to the show permanently, Stefani is returning to the competition series next season.

Movieguide® previously reported on Season 26:

THE VOICE is adding two new dynamic coaches for Season 26. Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé will be joining Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani in their search for a singing superstar.

Variety reported, “The announcement was made as part of the NBCUniversal upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday in New York. Snoop took the stage at Radio City Music Hall to announce he was joining the show before introducing Bublé. Bublé (briefly) tried his hand at rapping before launching into a performance of ‘You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Loves You.’”

Leaving THE VOICE judge panel this season are John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay.  Legend spoke with ET about the upcoming transition.
