BLIPPI, SESAME STREET Celebrate Elmo’s Birthday in Crossover Episode
By Movieguide® Contributor
Kid favorite TV shows, SESAME STREET and BLIPPI, just joined forces to celebrate Elmo’s birthday in a special episode called “Blippi and Meeka’s Birthday Surprise for Elmo.”
The video, which premiered on Saturday, is the first of several collaborations.
Variety reported, “That’s the first of three videos that have been produced for social and online, with the possibility of more along the way. Elmo, Big Bird, Abby, Blippi, Meekah, Herb the Dinosaur and more will be seen in the collection of episodes and music videos when they premiere simultaneously on the BLIPPI and SESAME STREET YouTube channels. Further videos will launch in June and September.”
In future crossovers, “Blippi and Elmo will visit Diggerland where they explore construction vehicles and equipment, and practice the alphabet. Then, Blippi and Elmo will also have some fun learning about dinosaurs with paleontologist Meekah, dinosaur expert Big Bird, and tour guide, Stanley-Saurus,” Parents reported.
“We’re beyond excited to work with Sesame Street to bring some of their beloved characters into the curious and adventurous world of BLIPPI,” said Katelynn Heil, General Manager of BLIPPI. “I grew up watching SESAME STREET and introduced my own kids to it as well, so it is a bit surreal to partner with such an iconic brand. As we celebrate 10 years of BLIPPI, this partnership is a great example of our joint mission of educating children through song, dance and play.”
Richard Hickey, Moonbug’s chief creative officer, also spoke of the collaboration.
“I’m a Brit and SESAME STREET was for me when I was small, represented Hollywood for in my mind, and so heritage wise and legacy wise, that was one of the more iconic U.S. IPs that I just loved,” he said.
“We’ve done other collabs that have been great for different reasons,” Hickey said. “But this one, the synergy, neither is neither is having to lean in or too far one way or the other. Both complement each other. That felt like perfect synergy, a perfect marriage. At their hearts, both shows have those values of compassion, empathy and resilience. Those things are kind of present in everything that SESAME STREET does.”
Movieguide® previously reported on BLIPPI:
Kid-friendly YouTube channel BLIPPI, known for its silly characters and child-focused content, was originally created by United States Air Force veteran Stevin John.
“He joined the Air Force in 2006, where he worked as a loadmaster for the C-17 Globemaster airplane at the 4th Airlift Squadron,” We Are the Mighty reported. “His main job was to plan cargo placement, mapping out pallets, tanks, and helicopters to keep it in balance throughout flight.”
“John ultimately served for two years and exited at the end of his contract in 2008. Publicly, he cited his reason for leaving was the time commitment and not wanting to continually travel in the future,” the source added.
His life changed when he decided to create fun videos for his 2-year-old nephew, and what began as simple content turned into a YouTube character loved by children around the world.
