Disney announced that fans won’t have to wait much longer for more BLUEY content as nearly two dozen mini-episodes are set to release this July.
“Brand new ‘BLUEY Minisodes’ will start rolling out this July on Disney Jr. and Disney+,” a press release stated. “The collection includes 20 one- to three-minute shorts written by BLUEY creator Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio. The ‘BLUEY Minisodes’ highlight funny and sweet moments featuring Bluey and Bingo, leaning into playful interactions and games that further explore the characters and world of BLUEY.”
The development of the BLUEY Minisodes continues the franchise’s pattern of delving into content styles different from its classic episodes. In April, the show released its first extended-length special, ‘The Sign,’ to the delight of millions. The heart-wrenching story became the largest Disney Jr. episode premiere with 10.4 million views.
Part of Movieguide®’s review of “The Sign” reads:
Episode 49: “The Sign” has two main storylines. The first storyline is Bluey and her family as they adjust to the idea of moving away from their home in Queensland. The other is saving the wedding of Bluey’s Uncle Rad and her godmother Frisky.
These episodes are not only well animated but have top notch storytelling. The characters are all relatable by both children and adults. The entire purpose of each episode is to teach important life lessons for every person. “Ghostbasket” shows how the elderly should be treated. “The Sign” is about trusting in a divine plan even when life doesn’t go your way. Thus, both episodes have strong moral worldviews. “Ghostbasket” and “The Sign” are a delight for children of all ages, including parents and grandparents.
“I think when we have taken risks, that’s when it’s been the most exciting and I think that’s when the audience has liked it the most as well,” said executive producer Daley Pearson. “So whatever it will be, it will be something that we’re not quite sure if we can do it. But we hope we can.”
Disney has produced shorts like this in the past with Mickey Mouse which saw the character taken on short, but thrilling, adventures and mishaps of his own doing. These shorts would often air during commercial breaks, keeping viewers involved in between shows.
