BLUEY Sets Worldwide Release for 28-Minute Special Episode

By Movieguide® Contributor

Popular children’s show BLUEY has set a release date for its upcoming 28-minute special “The Sign.”

BLUEY is set to return in April with a new episode leading up to a 28-minute special – “The Sign” – the show’s longest episode to date. The new episode, “Ghostbasket,” will be released on Sunday, April 7, with “The Sign” releasing a week later on April 14.

These episodes will mark the series’ first global debut as they will air on ABC Kids Australia, the show’s native channel, before rolling out globally across Disney’s branded television, BBC Kids and Disney+.

BLUEY has quickly become one of kids TV’s most popular shows. This January, 10 new episodes were released on Disney+, posting 1.5 billion minutes viewed during that month. The show ended last year as the top series for preschoolers and kids and was the No. 2 most streamed series across all of television.

The show tells the story of a blue heeler puppy and her family and offers family-friendly messaging, such as the importance of friendship and compassion. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of season one of BLUEY reads:

BLUEY: Season One is a wonderfully animated children’s show with a high production value. BLUEY is entertaining not just for children, but also adults. The comedy is witty enough to get a good chuckle out of parents. Even better, the program has strong family morals and lessons that both children and adults can learn. It has a positive depiction of Bluey’s relationship with her sister, mother and father. There are also common themes of sharing, learning and growing up. There is no foul language or other objectionable content. MOVIEGUIDE® finds BLUEY: Season One suitable for all ages.

The show has become so popular with children that some kids in America are developing Australian accents and phrasing to copy the show. One child from Massachusetts, for example, began calling using Australian slang for the toilet, calling it the “dunny.”

Movieguide® previously reported on BLUEY:

McCormack and Zanetti spoke about what it’s like to star in the show.

“[My kids] love it,” McCormack said. “Grace is almost 9. Rose is 11. They love it. They were confused when it first came on TV because they’d look at the TV and Bandit [McCormack’s character] was speaking, and they’d look at the TV like ‘What is going on?’”

He joked that he confuses other young fans when they meet him, too.

“They normally burst into tears,” he joked. “Because they think I’ve, like, eaten Bandit and his voice is coming out.”
