Will James Bond Franchise Become ‘Too Modern’? This Star Is Worried
By Movieguide® Contributor
Naomie Harries, who played Moneypenny in the last few Bond movies, hopes the newly Amazon-acquired franchise doesn’t become “too modern.”
“I just hope they don’t try to make it too modern — we all grew up with Bond, and I think it needs those classic elements for people to connect with it,” she explained in a recent interview.
“There have been so many erroneous rumors about the future of Bond. Amazon is committed to keeping the spirit of Bond alive and that means he has to be British or from the Commonwealth — and he has to be male,” she said.
Harris also let slip who she could see taking on the next Bond role.
“I was just in BLACK BAG with Regé-Jean Page, and he does wear a suit very well,” she said.
Page recently told Vanity Fair, “It’s a conversation people are having, and it’s terribly flattering that they’re having it. I leave them to it.”
When asked if he would want the role, he said, “I have no idea. It’s not a thing that is fully occupying my thoughts. I’ve got enough on my plate at the moment. I worry about the work I have, not other people’s jobs.”

Since NO TIME TO DIE came out four years ago and has left fans hanging, there have been a handful of rumors about who the next Bond will be.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s name has been the most prevalent one thrown around, as a source told The Sun last year that “Aaron went for a screen test to be the next Bond in September and producers and Barbara [Broccoli, Bond producer], loved him. He is now one of the frontrunners.” But as a year has passed with no official confirmation, it seems unlikely that this is the case.
Other names in the mix are Idris Elba, Richard Madden, Joe Alywn, Josh O’Connor, Paul Mescal, Dev Patel, Pierce Brosnan (again) and Theo James.
Author of Catching Bullets – Memoirs of a Bond Fan, Mark O’Connell, recently threw another name into the ring. “A new guy called Harris Dickinson,” he told LBC. “Keep an eye on him.” He predicted that Amazon will announce its new Bond actor this summer.
