Tyson Fury, World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion, wants to give God the glory whether he wins or loses.
In a pre-fight interview, Fury spoke about his faith, saying, “Without failure, I can train all I want, but whoever God wants to win this fight will win. It doesn’t matter if you’re from the gutter or the kingdom of wherever.”
“Fury will face Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk on Feb. 17 in Saudi Arabia, with the winner to be named the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world,” The Christian Post reported.
Fury spoke highly of his opponent, Usyk, and the faith they share.
“We are the two biggest Christians in boxing,” Fury proclaimed.
“Listen, being a champion is great. But to see someone who is also a world champion and has big faith in God is unbelievable. Beautiful,” he added.
Fury has never kept his faith to himself. In a 2021 post-fight interview after defeating Deontay Wilder, Fury turned the attention to God.
“I would like to say thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus, I won this fight tonight again,” he expressed. “I give Him the glory; He gives me the victory.”
Fury was also seen wearing a hat with the Spanish phrase, “Jesus: El Rey Viene.” It translates to “Jesus: The King is Coming.”
Before his fight, Fury will often read a prayer to his team.
The prayer reads, “Heavenly Father, I come to you in the mighty name of Jesus. Give both men strength tonight. Give both men the power to give their best performances and let both men come out of the the ring safely. As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil. And those who bring weapons against me shall not prosper. Amen.”
