Brandon Lake: ‘THE CHOSEN Changed My Life’

Christian singer-songwriter Brandon Lake says THE CHOSEN has had an incredible impact on his life.

“THE CHOSEN changed my life,” Lake explained. “I remember me and my wife watching it, about to turn in for the night and, when He enters the scene, it was as if Jesus walked into our bedroom. The glory of God filled our bedroom in such a crazy way, through the TV.”

He continued, “I remember being speechless for probably 10 minutes; it felt like an hour. [I] didn’t say a thing and it was like bringing the Word from black and white into full color.”

Lake also has professional ties to the popular show — his song, “Gratitude,” was featured in the holiday special CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN: THE MESSENGERS.

“‘Gratitude’ just went to the top of the charts,” he said. “And God has just been breathing on it ever since, and I get to tour this song and sing it with thousands of people and it’s just really cool that THE CHOSEN had such a huge part to play in really just one of the main worship songs that the nation is singing now.”

The song was just awarded Billboard’s Top Christian Song award.

“I’m just so incredibly honored to receive this award,” he said in his acceptance speech. “This past year of my life has been the best year of my life. And it’s just — it’s amazing to know that these songs are going out and impacting lives all across the globe. I’m honored to be able to get to do what I do…it’s a moment to celebrate all that God’s doing and knowing that He takes these simple things that we create with Him and breathes on them and just chooses to use them in a huge way to lift people’s spirits, to give them faith. I’m honored to receive this award.”

Lake’s latest project is the album “COAT OF MANY COLORS.”

“I’ve written many of these songs with my friends and with my community and with people across the world,” the singer told PEOPLE. “It doesn’t take me partnering with a main ministry to be successful. God wants to do something unique through my life, and I’m trying to learn how to trust that. I am stepping out in faith to believe that the music that Brandon Lake puts out can make as big of an impact as a ministry that has a church’s name behind it or a collective of 12, 15 or 20 artists.”

Movieguide® previously reported:

Brandon Lake’s newest album – “Coat of Many Colors” – took inspiration from various places, from ongoing wars to his work at his local church.

The inspiration behind the album? The story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.

“In many ways, we are all wrapped in a coat of many colors – we are clothed in the Father’s love and in his pride for us, and every one of us are his favorite,” Lake explained. “We see in the story of Joseph’s life that he was misunderstood, he had dreams that got him in trouble, and he had to go through the process of trusting his dreams and being faithful to God. Joseph went from a pit to a palace, and this album explores that theme heavily.”

“This coat represents seasons of my life, reminding me of all the amazing things God’s done for me,” he told K-Love. “We are all made up of the ‘pits’ and ‘palaces’ we’ve walked through — a beautiful mosaic, a technicolored testimony.”
