Brazilian soccer player Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, better known as just Ronaldo, renewed his commitment to Christ and got baptized in mid-September.

“The athlete, celebrated for his pivotal role in two World Cup victories, was baptized, confirmed and received First Holy Communion at São Paulo’s Church of Sao Jose, a momentous occasion that resonates deeply with Christians who rejoice in the baptism and salvation of others,” Charisma News reported.

The soccer player proudly shared on Instagram, “Today is a very special day. I have been baptized! ?? The Christian faith has always been a fundamental part of my life since childhood, although I had not yet been baptized.”

“With the sacrament, I feel truly regenerated as a child of God—in a new, more aware, deeper way,” he continued. “I renew my commitment to follow the way of good, free and spontaneous will, believing in the love of Jesus, in charity love.”

Ronaldo grew up in a low-income area of Rio de Janeiro. He began playing on a soccer team in his tween years, and his career launched from there.

He would go on to bring Brazil victory at the 2002 World Cup. He became FIFA Player of the Year and, later, a two-time European Footballer of the Year award winner.

The athlete previously shared that he believes God’s favor impacted his life.

Ronaldo told one of his teammates after the World Cup win, “God has been good to me, hasn’t he?”

Charisma News wrote, “As Christians across the globe continue to rejoice in Ronaldo’s spiritual journey, his baptism stands as a testament to the enduring importance of faith, renewal, and the profound impact of one’s commitment to follow the path of goodness and the love of Jesus.”

Movieguide® recently reported on the baptism of women’s college basketball star Hailey Van Lith:

Hailey Van Lith posted a series of photos on her Instagram story sharing her baptism.

Van Lith wrote, ‘Best day of my life’ on the first photo, and ‘My greatest success in life is to offer my life to serve Jesus’ on the last.

Her Instagram bio includes 1 Peter 5:6, which states, ‘So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.’
