By Movieguide® Contributor
Female motorsports athlete Hailie Deegan announced she will be moving to open-wheel racing in 2025.
“I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with a proven program in HMD Motorsports,” Deegan said. “I have much to learn, but I am ready to go.”
Deegan will compete in the 14-race Indy NXT series, “a development series for IndyCar,” Fox Sports said in a press release.
“The team brings a wealth of knowledge for me to pull from, and I look forward to soaking up as much of that as possible before my race debut next March in St. Petersburg,” she added.
“Hailie, and especially the Deegan name, are huge in motorsports, and we welcome them to the HMD Motorsports family,” Mike Maurini, HMD Motorsports President and Deegan’s main sponsor, said. “Hailie has already been out to the shop and is taking the move to open-wheel racing seriously.”
Deegan competed this past weekend in the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and placed 14th.
Her dad, Brian Deegan, a pioneer in the motorsports industry, shared the weekend with his family on Instagram. The post included photos of the family with Hailie’s Indy car.

“Came down to watch Hailie’s 1st Indy lites race,” Brian wrote in one post.
He continued: “Definitely a different style of racing. No matter what we are watching, our daughter is going really fast in a small race car really close to concrete walls. Proud of her courage and willingness to step out of her comfort zone to take on a new challenge. It will be a steep learning curve but that’s what makes it exciting.”
“Was a fun day at the track with the fam,” he wrote after the race. “Hailie had a good race keeping the car in one piece in her first race in the series. Always exciting to see the kids take on new challenges. Who wants to live in the comfort zone anyways.”
