Why Browns QB Keeps His ‘Foundation Rooted’ in ‘Jesus’

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston has only started the last two games for his team this season, but he’s quickly making a huge impact on and off the field.

In a podcast episode with Theo Von, he explained how rooting his life in Christ helps him withstand trials.

“Faith is the first thing that you should hold onto because faith is really the things that you believe that you have not seen,” Winston began. “Like when you look at an acorn, but for that seed to grow into what it needs to become, it has to break. It has to be broken. Then, it has to get rooted. So, before it sprouts up, it has to go down into the earth and establish a foundation.”

“So, when you think about challenges, it’s the Lord telling you like, ‘Hey man, we’re going to have to have a shift. You gotta get rooted in a real foundation, which is me.’ Which is the Lord, which is Jesus. That’s your foundation,” the quarterback declared. “And before you can grow up, you’re going to have some little seedlings fall, you’re gonna have some little cracks here and there, you might have a little bird trying to come and snatch you out, but through that trial, you’re going to be able to turn into the beautiful oak tree.”

He added, “You’re going to be able to be fruitful and give to others through your testimony, through your experiences, and when you view it from that perspective now that fear isn’t as frightening.”

At 2-7, the Cleveland Browns are fourth in the AFC North division.

After the Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens last month, Winston shared his message to his team.

“Unwavering faith. Ultimate belief. Depending on the Lord. This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it,” Winston said.
