Candace Cameron Bure and Tara-Leigh Cobble Discuss Faith and Being ‘Born Again’

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent episode of her podcast, Candace Cameron Bure sat down with Tara-Leigh Cobble, host of The Bible Recap podcast, to share some insights into what it means to follow God.

While the conversation began with a discussion about fashion, food, fears and music, they quickly jumped into what the Christian life looks like.

Bure began by describing the moment she first recognized the significance of the Bible, saying, “I had such a hunger and desire to learn God’s Word, learn who He is and all about him and all the people that He interacted with.”

“I remember being in my bedroom, that the feeling was so overwhelming about that desire and I got on my knees and prayed. I said, ‘Lord, please don’t let me forget how I’m feeling right now because I don’t want to just be all excited today,’” Bure recalled.

“It was such an honest and earnest prayer from my heart,” she told Cobble. “All these years later, I’m like, ‘God hasn’t put that flame out.’ It’s still burning bright, and I’m forever, forever grateful that He really fuels it.”

From there, the conversation launched into what it means to be “born again.”

“That terminology [born again] sometimes gets really misused by people…as if it’s an extra thing on top of Christianity,” Bure said.

“No, when you’re born again, if you’re a Christian, it actually implies that you have been born again, meaning reborn of the Spirit. That God gives you new and right desires in the Spirit,” she explained.

“Anyone who is a Christian has been born again,” Cobble added, reflecting on John 3 and the story of Jesus and Nicodemus. “Anyone who isn’t a Christian has only been born once. They’ve only been born into the natural life and not into the spiritual life.”

She continued, saying that “born again” means “The Spirit gives this new life in us and recreates us to demonstrate Jesus to the world around us.”

“In all of the endeavors that we face in life, all the trials and circumstances and hardships and joys and everything, I love that we have the Word of God to guide us, the Spirit of God to guide us, other believers who have the Spirit of God in them to guide us,” Cobble concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported on one of Bure and Cobble’s discussions about faith:

Candace Cameron Bure and Tara-Leigh Cobble recently discussed prayer on the latest episode of ‘Candace Cameron Bure: The Podcast.’

The actress and music artist began their conversation about prayer with the scriptures encouraging Christians that God hears our prayers.

“When we pray to God, whether it’s something really casual.. or it’s an actual desperate need of prayer… God’s always there for us,” Bure said. “He’s always listening and he’s always receiving.”

“He’s not gonna say, ‘No, no, I don’t have time for you today. I’m not gonna listen to this one today. I gotta go to work, I’ve got other things on the agenda today maybe, I’ll get to you tomorrow,’” she explained.

Cobble pointed to Romans 8:28, which reads: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose.”

“One of the things that it tells Christians is it says God is working everything together for good. Not that the things are at work to be good, but that God is working in everything, the good, the bad and the ugly—in all circumstances—to do good to his kids,” Cobble added. “If God is at work in everything then that means he’s at work even in where I park, because every little thing is something.”

“Nothing is removed from him and God has this incredible mind that is never overloaded,” she continued. “He’s never exhausted. He doesn’t tap out. He doesn’t need to nap and He’s always active but never busy.”
