Candace Cameron Bure, Dave Coulier Reminisce About FULL HOUSE

Candace Cameron Bure and Dave Coulier talked about their time on FULL HOUSE and reminisced over Bure’s experience growing up as a child actor.

One of the stories they recalled was Bure’s experience auditioning and the high standards that she had set for herself even at 10 years old.

“I got the audition from my agent and auditioned twice for the casting director,” Bure told Coulier. “The first time I went in she told me, ‘Okay, that was great, I’ll bring you back for a callback,’ but I was so upset I cried when I walked out of the audition… because I didn’t think that the casting director had enough enthusiasm that my audition was actually good. I thought she was kind of lying about it.”

“So I walked out of the audition, and I cried to my mom, she was like, ‘Honey, what happened?’ And I said, ‘I don’t think I did very well. But I know she’s bringing me back,’” Bure continued. “And my mom said, ‘Well, that means you did really well.’ And I’m like, ‘But I just don’t think she really liked me.’ So my mom said, ‘Do you want to go back in and do it again, and [the casting director] could tell you what she’d like done differently?’ I said, ‘Yes I would.’”

“And I went back in that day, immediately. I said, ‘Can you tell me how I could do it better?’ And so she gave me notes, and I don’t remember what they were, and then she’s like, ‘Okay, that was great. You’re still coming back,’” Bure recalled.

Of course, Bure got the part and became DJ Tanner on the show. Coulier and Bure both believe the show’s success came largely because of the chemistry the cast had. This was largely due to the time the adult actors would spend with the kids off-set.

“It was so nice of you too. I look back and think about it, and I’m just like, all three of you were the best,” Bure said. “The fact that you took me to the circus, you took me to a hockey game, like what other actors or, like, family actors do that with the kids that are playing their kids but not actually their own kids. I think it’s so cool.”

However, not everything on the show was smooth sailing. With FULL HOUSE running for so many seasons, Bure essentially grew up on television and went through puberty while on the show, something that made some of the episodes especially difficult.

“Growing up on television and going through all of your teen years on television, those experiences were not always fun,” she said. “So the episodes that I like hated, DJ had a zit on the end of her nose, and it was like, thanks so much, I just have to look ugly this episode all day and have people make fun of a zit.”

Nonetheless, Bure is forever grateful for the show and the way that it launched her acting career.

The actress occasionally posts throwback photos from her time on FULL HOUSE and its sequel FULLER HOUSE.

“That Friday feeling ??— flashback to finding the DJ wedding dress ✨. Today also marks 36 years since becoming DJ Tanner, what a ride! So blessed!” Bure posted last September.

She also shares memories of former co-star Bob Saget, who died in January 2022.

“I stayed up for hours watching videos of Bob on my phone,” Bure posted a year after his death. “Videos I couldn’t watch a year ago because it hurt too much. Last night they made me laugh ?. They comforted me and warmed my heart. I watched them over and over and laughed so hard. I miss him so much and I’m grateful he was my friend for so many years. I love you, Bob❤️ *now go hug a friend like Bob would.”

Candace Cameron Bure called her FULL HOUSE cast members “family” in a recent interview, sharing how they stay close and reflecting on the impact of former co-star Bob Saget’s death.

“We’re all close friends. We keep in contact, like, constantly. I always just get amused when [the media calls] them reunions because I’m like, ‘We’re literally family hanging out,’” she explained. “But sometimes we do that publicly.”

Bure expressed how she and the rest of the cast miss Saget. He died on Jan. 9, 2022, at the age of 65.

“It’s always going to be a special but hard day in our lives,” Bure continued. “We’re always going to honor Bob for the rest of our lives and probably together and probably publicly because we love him so much and want to keep his memory alive. We’re family through and through.”
