Why FULL HOUSE Actress Invited Co-Star to First Date With Future Husband

Candace Cameron Bure explained why she brought Lori Loughlin along when she went on her first date with her husband Val.

“Our first date [was at the] Santa Monica pier,” Val told Us Weekly. “I called her the following day [after we met], and she was surprised. I only had a day in Los Angeles before I left, and I asked if she wanted to go to lunch.”

“He called me the next morning at 10 a.m.,” Candace added. “And I was too scared to go by myself, so I called Lori Loughlin, and [Val] said his brother would come, so the four of us went to lunch on our first date.”

Despite the awkward start to their relationship, the couple has been committed to each other ever since, celebrating 28 years of marriage this June and sharing three kids.

“I’ve said it before, but the secret has not just been the commitment to God and the blueprint that God provides us biblically within a marriage, but it’s honoring one another,” she told the Christian Post earlier this year.

In 2021 when they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, Candace praised the Lord for the sound partner He gave her.

“Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and, in humility, our willingness to trust Him and allow those who’ve gone before us and those who haven’t but know God’s Word to speak into us,” Candace wrote. “And grateful for every other bit of solid advice and encouragement in between.”

“I’m often asked for marriage advice. What’s the secret? Lord knows I will never write a book about it because we are still learning every year, every day,” Bure said. “Grace. Grace. Grace. Communication (which is so important but difficult when one partner isn’t willing.) Sex. Laughter. Patience. Lots of patience. Love (a verb. which must be put into action, it’s not just a feeling),” she continued.

“No marriage is picture perfect. Not one. And certainly not ours,” she added. “But through thick and thin, ups and downs, God has blessed us tremendously with guidance and perseverance. I believe God is the secret sauce. I have more love for this man today than the day we married each other… And I know he does for me. Praise the Lord.”
