Actress Kicks Off New Year With One Word
By Movieguide® Contributor
While some people kick off the New Year with resolutions, actress Candace Cameron Bure likes to choose a word that sets the stage for the year ahead.
“I like to have a word for the year, and then I might also think about a scripture verse to be the verse of the year,” she told her brother Kirk Cameron on an episode of his TBN show TAKEAWAYS. “I know I’m a pretty joyful person, but in the deeper meaning, when the Bible says, ‘Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters for when you face trials of many kind, because those trials produce endurance.’”
The verse she is referencing is James 1:2-4 which says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Bure concluded, “I want to endure, because that endurance produces proven character, and that proven character produces hope that’s only found in God. And so, my word for the year is ‘joy.’”
The actress also starts the year in God’s word. Her first podcast episode of 2025 dove into Genesis 1.
“I really hope you enjoyed that,” she said when she finished reading the chapter. “It’s just amazing to me, and I think when He says ‘God created us’ or ‘God created human beings in our image,’ He’s talking about all three of them being present: God the Father, God the son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. All there from the beginning at creation. Anyway guys, until next, time be grateful all day every day.”

She also plans to read through the whole Bible this year.
“I want to prepare you that if you want to read through the Bible in a year to join me again with the Bible Recap,” Bure posted on Instagram. “It’s hosted by Tara-Leigh Cobble, and it’ll take you through the Bible, reading chronologically.”
