Why Do We Love Christmas Movies? Candace Cameron Bure Has the Answer

Candace Cameron Bure is sharing her excitement for the holidays, from her two new Christmas movies to Great American Family’s upcoming Christmas Festival.

“When you watch these [Christmas] movies you know they’re going to have a happy ending and the two people are going to fall in love, and you get to go on a journey with them,” she told First For Women. “It takes you out of the day-to-day and you get to relax and settle into these stories. I think that’s very much the reason why people love watching these movies.”

Bure added, “There’s been legitimate research that shows people are happier when it’s Christmastime, and that’s why people put their decorations up earlier and earlier. Looking at decorations and Christmas trees makes people happy. People want to feel happy and these Christmas movies do exactly that.”

This year, Bure stars in A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED and HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS.

In A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED, Bure plays Desi, who “faces the dilemma of selling her late father’s beloved truck, [but] a chance encounter with a handsome stranger leads to a transformative road trip where they find the courage to embrace the future,” per IMDb.

HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS follows “Sophie, a lawyer, [who] returns home after inheriting part of a maple forest from her uncle. She reconnects with Sam, her childhood friend who co-owns the property, sparking new possibilities,” according to IMDb.

Bure also served as a producer on both projects, meaning she was “there at every step” of their development.

“Since I’m both part of the network and a producer on the films, it actually streamlines the process a lot,” she explained. “At the network alongside my other great colleagues, our decisions are pretty easily made, because I know what I’m looking for within the film.”

Bure continued, “As Chief Creative Officer [at Great American Family], I’m looking at the state of the network in general and developing our content and all of the films that will be on both the channel and our streaming platform, Great American Pure Flix. I look at the overall branding and what we want our audience to feel and experience when they watch our movies…I have a big creative role in getting to oversee all aspects and make sure that there’s consistency, and I absolutely love that part of my job.”

The FULL HOUSE actress also shared her excitement for GAF’s upcoming Christmas Festival.

“I’m so pumped,” she said. “It’s something that we’ve been developing for several years.”

The festival is an “ immersive experience featuring stars from Great American Family movies, exclusive screenings, photo opportunities, ice skating, crafting, and of course, Santa!” according to the GAF website.

“It’s an evolution of the Christmas movie to give people this experience of feeling like they’re in this little town with all the fun things that we love watching in those movies,” Bure added.
