Candace Cameron Bure Talks Holding Onto Faith Amid Suffering
By Movieguide® Contributor
Candace Cameron Bure and Bianca Juarez Olthoff recently discussed holding onto faith while facing trials and difficulties.
Olthoff shared a particularly difficult time in her life when she was dealing with her mother’s health issues, as well as a struggling relationship.
“What I learned in that season, I can say, what a gift to have been able to suffer for the name of Jesus, because the person I am today would not be who I am had I not had those challenges,” she said on “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.”
Bure also shared her own troubling times. For the FULL HOUSE actress, it was when she faced “cancel culture” for public comments she made about her beliefs.
“In James 1, it says, ‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you,’” she shared.
The actress added, “I faced some trials that I haven’t faced before, and I know they’re still going to come. They’re still there. They’re waiting for me…but I’m just trying to live my life.”
Olthoff acknowledged that some people are “choosing not to fight because we are in pain,” but shared her decision to “push past the pain and persevere.”
“Because I’m a person who declares that she’s resilient,” she explained. “It takes a lot for me to go down because the enemy will come swinging for me, and he will knock me down, but he will not knock me out.”
Olthoff frequently shares this message of perseverance and dedication.
In a recent Instagram post, she encouraged followers to focus on faith in dark times.
“When you find yourself wandering without direction, entangled in conflicts, feeling isolated, or consumed by worry about tomorrow, let your hope find its anchor in Jesus!” she wrote. “Follow Him, seek His guidance, and stay focused on His unwavering love. As you entrust your circumstances to Him, watch how He transforms your journey. Putting your faith in the One who promised, for He is faithful to lead you back to where you need to be.”
It’s a topic she also explores in her latest book, “Grit Don’t Quit.”
“The idea of #grit and #resilience (biblically known and endurance and perseverance) isn’t found in one segment of scripture. Nope, it permeates the WHOLE BIBLE in the same way it permeates our whole life,” Olthoff wrote in an Instagram post. “You’re stronger than you think. You’re too close to quit. You’re more than able. You’re enough.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Bure and Olthoff:
Candace Cameron Bure and Bianca Juarez Olthoff discussed grit, personal growth and how developing perseverance takes practice on Bure’s podcast.
“In order to grow your grit, you actually have to go through some stuff, right? You have to practice it,” Bure said. “It’s when life throws you a bunch of stuff, and you feel like giving up, but you don’t. I mean, you have to learn how to not give up…”
“How we grow our grit, how we grow resilience is by going through trials,” Olthoff continued. “It’s by going through trials, trauma, tribulation, loss. It’s all the things that we want to avoid. That’s actually the things that transform us. So the thing that we want to avoid is actually the thing that will release us into the person that we know truly is deep within.”
