Candace Cameron Bure Talks ‘Sheer Love’ Of Giving Back
By Movieguide® Contributor
Candace Cameron Bure is exploring the topic of giving back as we continue through this holiday season.
“[There is] sheer love in sharing,” Bure said during an episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast,” where she spoke to Sprinkles Cupcakes founder Candace Nelson. “That is childlike giving that I wish I had as much fearlessness in that today.”
The actress pointed to adult worries like mortgages as reasons some might hesitate before giving to others, calling it an “internal struggle.”
“I very much admire people who give so freely and give beyond their means,” Bure continued. “It’s a beautiful thing to witness.”
She and Nelson also pointed out that there are many different ways to give back besides financially.
“Time and talent go a long way,” Bure said, explaining that she has started mentoring her children’s friends as a way to give back.
Another way the actress gives back is through the Salvation Army.
“I grew up knowing about the Salvation Army, especially with the Red Kettle Campaign,” the actress said in an interview with the organization. “It was a trusted organization that my parents always looked to, whether it was through donating or going to The Salvation Army stores or donating our own things to the store. The Salvation Army has always been a longstanding great organization. As a woman of faith and knowing the history behind The Salvation Army, [our partnership] was pretty much a no-brainer!”
Bure is also celebrating this Christmas season with her latest movie, MY CHRISTMAS HERO.
A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:
MY CHRISTMAS HERO is a powerful Christmas drama laced with many lighthearted moments. There are many great scenes honoring sacrifice, heroism, helping others, hope, and love. There are a few scenes referring to the Nativity Story, including mentioning the importance of Christ’s birth and sacrifice for human beings. Several heartrending scenes show the sacrifices and heroism that American servicemen have made for the country and the people in it. In addition, MY CHRISTMAS HERO extols the power that successful American businesses have to make life better for the community and people around them.
“I know it means a lot to [our service members] that we honor them, and we want to in really big ways because we know that we wouldn’t be here in peace without them,” Bure said of a special screening for military members and their family members. “So this is just a small gesture of appreciation on our end…And it’s a place where their whole family can come to watch the movie tonight. And that’s special for us because that’s who our movies are for, the whole family together.”
