Did You Favorite CBS Show Get Renewed?

By Movieguide® Contributor

CBS is renewing a handful of series for new seasons.

TRACKER, NCIS, NCIS: ORIGINS, NCIS: SYDNEY, FIRE COUNTRY, GHOSTS, GEORGE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE, ELSBETH and HOLLYWOOD SQUARES will all have a new season.

The news comes after the renewal announcements of MATLOCK, SHERRIFF COUNTRY, THE ROAD, BOSTON BLUE, SURVIVOR, THE AMAZING RACE, FBI and there may be more to come.

“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”

All of these renewed shows should have new seasons in either 2025 or 2026.

TRACKER, which currently has two seasons, is the most-watched entertainment series on TV. It averages 18 million views across all platforms in a 35-day time span.

FIRE COUNTRY averages 10.6 views across all platforms in 35 days, just slightly better than NCIS, which averages 10.4. ORIGINS averages 9.2 million, and SYNDEY averages 7 million.

YOUNG SHELDON spinoff GEORGE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE averages 12.9 million views and is renewed for its second season. THE GOOD WIFE spinoff ELSBETH averages 11 million views. Numbers for game show HOLLYWOOD SQUARES aren’t yet available as the first season just premiered in January, but estimates are at 5.4 million views in 35 days.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE EQUALIZER, FBI: MOST WANTED, FBI: INTERNATIONAL, POPPA’s HOUSE and S.W.A.T didn’t get renewed, but they haven’t been officially canceled.

S.W.A.T., produced by Sony Pictures, has a good business model, but it’s rated lower than other dramas.

“The show I think is beloved in the executive ranks at CBS, the show is beloved by our audience,” S.W.A.T. executive producer Shawn Ryan told Deadline in January. “But we also understand that a corporate change is happening in that world. I don’t know what the plans are. I don’t know what the criteria for renewal is going to be. It seems like it could be much different than years past.”

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime gave the green light for THE RINGS OF POWER renewal and canceled THE PRADEEPS OF PITTSBURGH. Hulu renewed PARADISE and canceled HOW TO DIE ALONE, Max renewed THE PITT but canceled BOOKIE and NBC renewed Rebe McEntire’s show, HAPPY’S PLACE.
