CBS’s NCIS: HAWAI’I Cancelled After 3 Seasons

CBS’s NCIS: HAWAI’I Cancelled After 3 Seasons

By Movieguide® Contributor

After NCIS just aired its collective 1000th episode, one branch of the NCIS universe is getting canceled.

NCIS HAWAI’I, “starring Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in Charge at NCIS Pearl Harbor, the spinoff series has followed her and her team as they balance their duty to family and country, investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security, and the mysteries of Hawai’i itself,” Entertainment Weekly said.

The finale of the series will air on May 6.

Deadline reported that major budget cuts were the reason for the cancellation, as the show didn’t bring in enough viewers to compete with other shows on CBS.

NCIS: HAWAI’I does feature a homosexual relationship, which may have lessened viewer interest.

Movieguide® previously reported on NCIS HAWAI’I:

NCIS…often promotes patriotic and conservative values that emphasize respect for law enforcement, and some episodes even include biblical themes such as justice, redemption, teamwork and forgiveness.

It’s disappointing to see a show that was initially rooted in conservative values do a heel turn to appease a vocal minority. Many of the original show’s loyal viewers will not watch the Hawaii spin-off due to its immoral and excessive content.

NCIS: NEW ORLEANS also had a liberal framework and was canceled.

Though NCIS: HAWAI’I won’t continue, NCIS has a lot of fresh content on the way.

“CBS has already announced two new shows entering the NCIS-verse next season: NCIS: Origins will follow a young version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and another show for Paramount+ that has yet to be named will star Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly, reuniting as their NCIS characters Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo,” Entertainment Weekly said.

Collider reported that NCIS: ORIGINS will feature Gibbs in the ’90s at the Camp Pendleton Office. It will show his path from a motley team member to a respected leader of the NCIS ranks.

ORIGINS will premiere sometime this fall.
