Charlize Theron Prioritizes Kids: ‘At The Top Of My List’

Charlize Theron is sharing the ways motherhood has changed the way she sees the world around her.
“When you think about it, there’s actually real power in the innocence of what [the world] is for them, and we lose that the older we get, so it’s great to have these two nuggets,” the actress said of her children.
Theron shared a story about her kids — Jackson, 11, and August, 7 — reading about ancient Egypt and getting excited about the topic.
“Now, we know the history of the Sphinx. I never thought I would want to know what’s going on with the Sphinx, and now I do,” she laughed.
While appearing at Town & Country’s Philanthropy Summit, Theron said her children are her “everything.”
“Ultimately, they’re at the top of my list,” she said. “Everything about them comes first — what they need, who they are.”
Theron also joked about how unimpressed Jackson and August are with her celebrity status.
“Whatever you’re doing when you’re a mom, [kids are] like, that is the lamest job. You could literally be the President, and they’d be like, Okay, whatever,” the actress laughed.
However, there are perks to having a famous mom.
“My oldest is now getting into that teenage phase of ‘Mom’s not cool anymore,’ so when I have little moments like that where I buy her the Taylor Swift T-shirt that nobody can get, that’s when I’m like a hero,” Theron said. ‘Mom, you got me that shirt that nobody can get?’ ‘Yes, I did. Don’t forget that.’”
Theron added, “I just want them to be who they are. I want to introduce them to the world out there — find the religion that works, find the philanthropic work that works. I want them to be happy and I want them to be good people.”
Theron adopted both her kids, which was something she always knew she wanted to do.
“Even when I was in relationships, I was always honest with my partners, that adoption was how my family would look one day,” she explained. “This was definitely not a second option for me. It was always my first.”
