Chris Pratt Confirms MCU Return

While on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JIMMY KIMMEL, Chris Pratt confirmed that his character Star-Lord will make another appearance in a Marvel movie.

The news, though exciting, was not entirely unexpected as at the end of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. III, the last MCU movie Pratt appeared in, at the end of the credits it was revealed that Star-Lord would return.

“For the people who know the Marvel world, we did GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. III, it was the last time you saw Star-Lord in there. There was a promise that Star-Lord would return,” Pratt told Kimmel. “So all I can say is we will make good on that promise.”

While it has yet to be revealed exactly which movie Star-Lord will return for, the most obvious candidate is the upcoming Avengers movie, AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, which is slated to release on May 1, 2026.

Star-Lord may not be the only superhero role on Pratt’s plate in the future, however, as he has stated an interest in joining the DC Universe now that his friend James Gunn is in charge of the franchise. Gunn worked as the director on all three GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movies, where he and Pratt got to know each other.

“Yes, of course,” Pratt said last July when asked if he would ever join the DCU. “If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it… I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James [Gunn] to decide.”

Meanwhile, around the same time, Gunn revealed that he had thought about casting actors he had previously worked with in the MCU. Though he mainly wants to bring new faces to the franchise, he is certainly open to offering roles to those he has directed in the past.

“That’s many years away, though,” Gunn said. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all the discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

Pratt isn’t the only actor thinking about switching from one superhero franchise to another. In February, rumors floated across the internet that former Superman actor Henry Cavill had been cast to star in a new MCU TV show.

Movieguide® previously reported:

DC Studios cut SUPERMAN star Henry Cavill from the DC Universe in 2022, but the actor is now rumored to be attached to a MCU project as a main role.

The actor is supposedly being tapped to star as Richard Rider in a MCU TV show about the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force. Rider has superhuman abilities such as flight and strength. Cavill previously had a starring role in the DCU, playing Superman from 2013 until 2022. Though, as the DCU looks to restart, he has now been replaced. Cavill has actually appeared in the MCU before, making a brief cameo in last year’s DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE as an alternative Wolverine.

The validity of this prediction is somewhat questionable as Marvel Television recently put NOVA on pause along with two other TV shows as the studio refocuses itself. NOVA, however, was the furthest show along and already had former CRIMINAL MINDS producer Ed Bernero on board as a writer and showrunner. The pause on production comes after Marvel announced it would be slowing production to focus on quality over quantity.
