Chris Pratt Stars in THE GARFIELD MOVIE: ‘Can’t Wait’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Garfield and friends will appear on the big screen in THE GARFIELD MOVIE, and Sony recently released a trailer for the movie that stars Chris Pratt voicing the titular feline.
In the trailer, Garfield, then a wide-eyed kitten, spots a lonely Jon Arbuckle at a restaurant, who sneaks him through the window. Jon quickly befriends the stranded tabby and offers him some of his pizza, mistakenly believing that Garfield would be satisfied by just a couple slices of pepperoni. The cat, however, devours the rest of the pizza. The wisecracking animal tells the audience after chomping on breadsticks, “And that’s how I adopted Jon.”
The new animated movie, based on Jim Davis’ comic strip, is directed by Mark Dindal (CHICKEN LITTLE) and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter David Reynolds ( FINDING NEMO).
“After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father — scruffy street cat Vic (Jackson) — Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist,” the movie synopsis reads.
Samuel L. Jackson plays Garfield’s father, Vic, and the movie also features the voice talents of Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Ving Rhames and Nicholas Hoult.
Pratt recently plugged the movie, alluding to Garfield’s aversion to Mondays. “Well this Monday officially doesn’t suck!! Dun dun duuuuuun… the Garfield OFFICIAL trailer is here and it’s better than I could have imagined!! Can’t wait for you all to see the movie… coming soon,” he wrote on Instagram.
THE GARFIELD MOVIE will hit theaters May 24, 2024.
THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY star was also the voice Emmet Brickowski in the LEGO MOVIE franchise and, earlier this year, was the voice of famous plumber Mario in THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE.
Part of the Movieguide® review of MARIO BROS. reads:
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023) has a strong moral message about brotherhood, sacrifice, and working together to overcome evil. The movie has breathtaking animation that honors its iconic source material while breathing new life into the large cast of characters from both Mario video games and other Nintendo games of the same universe. For Mario and Luigi, love for one another helps them overcome their deepest fears and stand up against Bowser and his army of Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants. Due to some intense animated action/violence, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.
