Christian Artist Remembers This Sweet Message From Mandisa
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Tauren Wells is remembering friend and musical peer Mandisa, sharing a heartfelt voice message she left him.
“With our digital presence, many people leave behind beautiful pieces of themselves,” Wells said at a recent awards show. “I just wanted to share something very personal to me with you all tonight. This is actually a voice text that Mandisa sent me just a few years ago, before the release of one of my albums.”
He then played the recording:
“Happy release day! It’s going to be really, really great, I just already know. On the way back from rehearsal, I will be bumping that in my car, and I’m praying for you today. New levels, new devils, so there’s that, but we’ve got no fear, so just know, I will be lifting you up. If you have anything specific you want me to pray for you, I would be happy to. Love you and appreciate you so much!”
“I know so many of you in the room received messages, support and love just like this,” Wells continued. “[Mandisa] will be greatly missed along with all of the other friends and family we’ve lost this year and loved so deeply. It’s a sobering reminder that our words carry so much weight. Your words can be some of the most valuable things you can leave behind. Let’s all remember to reach out to those we love.”
Mandisa passed away in April this year. Movieguide® previously reported:
Grammy Award-winning Christian artist Mandisa died on Thursday, April 18, at her home in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 47 years old.
Her cause of death is unknown.
“We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased,” a rep for the singer told PEOPLE. “At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
The California native first found fame during Season 5 of AMERICAN IDOL, where she earned a spot in the Top 10.
She released her first album, “True Beauty,” in 2007.
Mandisa’s cause of death was released in June, with NBC reporting she “died of complications of class III obesity, according to her autopsy.”
Friends and fans recently celebrated what would have been the singer’s 48th birthday.
“Today would have marked Mandisa’s 48th birthday, and while we deeply miss her here on earth, we take comfort in knowing she is singing, twirling, and basking in the presence of Jesus!” her official Instagram page posted. “Mandisa was such an incredible encourager and cheerleader to everyone who knew her. If you’ve ever been uplifted by her music or inspired by her words, find time today to encourage someone as a way to celebrate her life.”
