Christian Band Hawk Nelson Gives Biblical Response to Lead Singer Renouncing God

Christian rock band Hawk Nelson released a lengthy Bible-based statement to respond to their lead singer, John Steingard, renouncing his belief in God.
“Our mission as Hawk Nelson has always been to inspire and encourage all people with the truth that God is FOR them and not against them. In that message’s most simple and purest form, that THEY matter,” band members said in a statement.
Steingard announced earlier this week that he no longer believes in God. The renouncement shook the Christian community as Hawk Nelson has been a popular Christian band for more than a 15 years.
Steingard said he reached his conclusion after years of disenchantment with the church and hard questions that went unanswered. He says he looked in the Bible, but didn’t find a satisfying answer. Instead, he said the Bible created more questions.
His bandmates remained largely silent until Wednesday, when they turned back to the Bible for answers.
“So now we turn that truth towards one of our own. That God is still FOR Jon & he still matters. Why? Because that truth doesn’t change just because we question it,” the statement continued. “How we treat one another when they are at a different stage in their journey based on their life experiences is part of a bigger conversation. We are called to love one another unconditionally, as God loves us. We should also encourage and challenge one another in our Faith, seeking truth.”
They concluded their statement citing Romans 8:38, and writing, “The same Lord is Lord of all, and gives richly to all who call on Him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Ever thankful and grateful for how God has used this band, the music and the relationships and how He continues to do so.”
Since his renouncement, Steingard shared that he “certainly couldn’t say for certain that God isn’t there,” and he’s open to finding out who God really is.
“My prayer in recent days has been ‘God, if you’re there, please show up.’ I mean it sincerely,” Steingard said.
Let’s pray that Steingard encounters the Lord in an authentic, life-changing way.
