Comedian and actor Mike Epps takes on a new project in his HGTV show BUYING BACK THE BLOCK.
The star is on a mission to beautify his Indiana hometown on the show that will hit the network in November.
“The show will detail Epps and his wife, Kyra, as they provide renovations and interior design to the homes the comedian grew up around. Kyra is a self-proclaimed design enthusiast whose passion and keen eye turned an abandoned firehouse in the area into an abode fit for a successful couple,” a description of the show reads.
“It was about family and friends. It was about community. The memories were unforgettable,” Epps said in a promotional video. “After all the big movies, television, running around doing stand-up all over the world, Indy was calling… Me and my wife Kyra, we’re on a mission to renovate these houses one at a time…and to make sure people can afford them.”
This is not the couple’s first renovation project. Previously, they worked together to turn an abandoned fire station into their dream home.
The new show will contain “two major renovation projects over a 12-week period,” according to Yahoo News. Their goal is to keep the original character of each home while providing many upgrades.
Back in 2020, Epps expressed his desire to see his old neighborhood improved via an Instagram post. He explained how it used to be a place of crime but has already improved through real estate investment.
“A lot of people claim a hood a city or a block but don’t own it,” he captioned the post. “…this is my block in Indiana the before and after…I been arrested in this hood a thousand times and lost a many friends to violence and drugs…look at it now God Is Good I tell all the youngsters to invest in real estate it will take care of you!”
BUYING BACK THE BLOCK airs Wednesday, November 8, at 9 and 10 a.m. Eastern on HGTV.
