Cory Asbury Announces Upcoming Album ‘Pioneer’: ‘Something New to Say’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Singer-songwriter Cory Asbury, known for the hit song “Reckless Love,” recently announced the release date for his newest album “Pioneer.”
Asbury shared, “I’ll always be the ‘Reckless Love’ guy, but my art has evolved. I’ve changed. I’ve grown. And hopefully after more than 3 years, I’ve got something new to say. After all, that is the office of the artist—to give language to the things we all feel and experience.”
Asbury posted several photos of two singles he recently released, both of which will be on his new album.
The singer-songwriter shared the story behind his song “Kind,” saying, “If you’ve never seen the bottom of the barrel, this isn’t the song for you. If you’ve never experienced loss or addiction or heartbreak, this isn’t the song for you. If you think you’re doing just fine and you’ve got it all together on your own, this isn’t the song for you.”
Asbury concluded, “This is for the hurting, the destitute, the threadbare, the ragamuffins, the younger brothers. Because those are the ones Jesus came for. He didn’t come to heal the healed, He came to heal the sick. He didn’t come to save the self-righteous, He came to save the lost. So, if you’re ok admitting you really need Him, this one’s for you.”
In a separate statement, Asbury said, “‘Kind’ grapples with what it means to truly be human. Loss, failure, and grace are what make life painfully beautiful…I hope this message resonates with others who may be battling their own struggles and I pray they find comfort knowing they are not alone.”
He also released “These Are the Days.” Asbury wrote on Instagram, “NEW SONG + NEW ALBUM…“These are the Days” is OUT everywhere you listen to music and Pioneer is available for pre-order. God is good. Go listen and cry your little eyeballs out like little, tiny babies.”
Asbury’s new album explores “a new side of Asbury while maintaining honest and cutting lyrics that speak to the fragility of the human experience.”
“Pioneer” is available for pre-order and will be released worldwide September 15.
Movieguide® previously reported on Asbury:
Worship leader and songwriter Cory Asbury opened up about his struggles with porn addiction and how he overcome it after becoming exposed to it at a young age.
“[P]ornography was one of the ugly parts of my life for many years, even into my 20s after I had become a full-time worship leader,” Asbury said who wrote worship songs such as “Reckless Love” and “The Father’s House.”
The singer shares that even though he was “profoundly happy” in his marriage, his secret would eventually hurt both his wife Anna and God…
He realized that this would only help for a while and that cycle of addiction would continue. What brought a breakthrough in his life was reading about the life of King David in the Bible—in particular after David committed adultery with Bathsheba…
“I know it’s counterintuitive. It makes no sense that the way to get rid of guilt and shame and sin is to run to the very One you offended—God. The natural human response is to hide like what Adam and Eve did. But freedom comes from running to God instead,” he stated.
