Dallas Jenkins Announces New THE CHOSEN Christmas Special
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dallas Jenkins announced a new Christmas special that will combine his previous holiday specials into the ultimate nativity movie.
“Over six years ago I made a little short film on my friend’s farm in Illinois. Entitled THE SHEPHERD, it was about the birth of Christ from the perspective of the shepherds, and it was only intended for my church’s Christmas Eve service,” Jenkins explained. “It ultimately ended up launching THE CHOSEN.”
“A few years later, with many more resources, we did THE MESSENGERS, a special episode about the birth of Christ from the perspective of Mary and Joseph,” he continued. “This year I had an interesting idea…what it we combine the two? I didn’t think it would work great, but it might be an interesting experiment.”
“When Amada and I saw the first rough cut, we were so moved,” he added. “It does work, and the nativity story took on even more relevance…I can’t wait for you to see it in theaters and ultimately start a new Christmas tradition.”
The new Christmas special, HOLY NIGHT, intertwines the previous short films with musical performances to bring the birth of Jesus to life like never before.
“Combining the best of old and new, we’ve also worked in six of your favorite musical performances from the past, leading to a first-time-ever performance by Andrea Bocelli and his son, Matteo,” a statement added.
Other performers include the Bonner Family, Zach Williams, Matt Maher, Brandon Lake, One Voice Children’s Choir and Joy to the World.
CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN: HOLY NIGHT debuts in select theaters on Dec. 12-17. Tickets will go on sale at Fathom Events on Nov. 20.

THE CHOSEN plans to air a special Christmas episode on The CW to celebrate Christmas this weekend.
The special will air on Friday, Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW network.
“I’m thrilled The CW is airing this Christmas episode, it’s a great introduction to The Chosen to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. The perspective we show of this story honors the gospel narrative while also exploring the cultural, historical, and personal context that hasn’t been portrayed before,” Dallas Jenkins, creator of THE CHOSEN said in a press release.
THE CHOSEN’s Christmas Special first aired last year in theaters and featured a new episode called, THE MESSENGERS, songs from Christians artists like Phil Wickham, Maverick City Music, Brandon Lake, and more, and special devotionals presented by the cast.
