CHOSEN Creator Shares Gospel With Jordan Peterson: ‘Jesus Knows Our Hearts’

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins recently shared the Gospel with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson, explaining that he wants to “remind [viewers] that He’s a human being.”

Peterson told Jenkins that he watches THE CHOSEN with his wife, who “had undergone quite a profound religious transformation not too long before we started watching [the show].”

He said that he is a fan of the show and praised its quality.

“Part of the problem with…religious entertainment is that it’s often low quality, and you’re supposed to pretend that doesn’t matter,” Peterson explained, adding that stories about God need to be of the “highest possible quality.”

Jenkins replied that the aim of THE CHOSEN is “to take Jesus down from stained glass windows…in the formality of religion that sometimes can distance ourselves from Jesus, from a pure relationship with God.”

“To remove the religiosity of how we oftentimes see God and we see Him in paintings or stained glass windows,” he continued. “and then even when we sometimes watch movies, it still feels like a stained glass window. He’s very formal and distant and pious and not funny or not interesting or not charismatic.”

Jenkins said that THE CHOSEN is “designed to bring Jesus down from the stained glass window or from the statue and remind you that He’s a human being in addition to His divinity.”

The showrunner also shared the Gospel with Peterson, saying, “Jesus knows our hearts, [and] He wants a relationship with you specifically…So whether He’s healing you, calling you to follow Him or rebuking you, it’s not based on a paint-by-numbers, one-size-fits-all — He knows what’s in your heart.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jenkins spoke about the upcoming fifth season of THE CHOSEN, which will be released in theaters March 27.

“Those who’ve seen it and read the scripts and the actors …were all saying, ‘Oh, this is our best season yet,’” he shared.

In a press release about the new season, Jenkins said, “I’m possibly more excited to bring Season 5 to the world than any other season we’ve done.”
