Damar Hamlin on his Return to Football: ‘I’m Walking by Faith’

By Movieguide® Contributor

On January 2nd, Damar Hamlin found himself in a hospital bed fighting for his life. However, after three months since his collapse on the football field Hamlin has been cleared to fully return to football.

On Tuesday, the bills announced that he was cleared to resume all activities related to football.

After the announcement, Hamlin spoke to the media and stated that he wants to be an encouragement to others. He wants to show others that it is possible to overcome such a terrifying accident and power forward amid fear.

“I just want to show people that fear is a choice, that you can keep going in something without having the answers and without knowing what’s at the end of the tunnel,” Hamlin said. “You might feel anxious. You might feel any type of way, but you just keep putting that right foot in front of the left one and you keep going. I want to stand for that.”

Hamlin spoke to FOX Sports’ Michael Strahan and expressed that Hamlin gave his future to God and that he just felt grateful to still be breathing.

“That’s always the goal, like I said, as a competitor, you know, I’m trying to do things to keep advancing my situation,” Hamlin stated. “But I’m allowing that to be in God’s hands. I’m just thankful He gave me a second chance.”

As Hamlin has dealt with all the ups and downs since his collapse, he plans to stay faithful to God and fully trust Him.

“I’m riding the roller coaster of emotions,” he expressed. “I’m taking it one day at a time, and I’m trusting God, you know? I’m walking by faith.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Hamlin and how he is being used in a different way:

After his collapse sparked millions of people to prayer, the 24-year-old player has shown steady signs of improvement as he recovered at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Although he couldn’t play on Sunday, Hamlin tweeted that God is using him in a “different way.”

CBN News reports, “the Bills scored a touchdown on the opening kickoff against the New England Patriots paying tribute to Hamlin, and Indianapolis Colts safety Rodney Thomas celebrated Hamlin’s ongoing recovery by running to the third-yard line after snagging an interception against Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills.”

Other players supported Hamlin through on-field prayer.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans bowed down in the middle of the football field to pray for Hamlin during Saturday’s game. And Derwin James and Russell Wilson both wore number 3 and prayed on the field before the Broncos-Chargers game on Sunday afternoon,” CBN News reported.

Hamlin thanked his supporters in a recent Instagram post.

“When you put real love out into the world it comes back to you 3x’s as much,” he wrote.

“The love has been overwhelming, but I’m thankful for every single person that prayed for me and reached out. We brung the world back together behind this. If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger. On a long road keep praying for me!”
