Danica McKellar on Overcoming Adversity and Trials

Danica McKellar on Overcoming Adversity and Trials

By Movieguide® Contributor

As Danica McKellar reads through the Bible in one year, she continues to be struck by new insights and lessons.

In this update, McKellar gave viewers insight into 1 Samuel. As McKellar took note of King Saul’s disobedience to God, she explained the book of 1 Samuel as “human.” She defined King Saul’s actions like hers sometimes.

“What I see in this, the very human trait of justifying and rationalizing behavior, that we know is wrong, but we want it to be right,” McKellar stated in her update. “I know I’ve done that before and then I look back and I’m like, ‘Hmm, I was rationalizing that. I wanted it to be true because it was convenient or safe or attractive or whatever it was, but it wasn’t right.”

Additionally, McKellar shared on the battle between David and Goliath, how that story has “become a popular metaphor for overcoming adversity and achieving success despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles.”

“I love how many of the stories in the Bible are so engrained in our culture and to see where it all comes from is just really exciting,” she concluded.

Movieguide® recently reported on McKellar’s bible reading commitment:

The actress shared that she’s reading the Bible “in a few different ways” during her challenge: reading the Bible from her friend Candace Cameron Bure, using a travel-sized Bible and listening to it through an app.

“I love the combination, going back and forth,” she shared. “Oftentimes when I listen, I’ll go back and read what I’ve listened to, and it’s very enriching, and it’s very motivating too.”

As she’s been reading through the Old Testament, McKellar realized that “There’s all this stuff I didn’t know anything about.”

For example, she “didn’t know anything about people living hundreds and hundreds of years old.”

“I have a lot to learn,” she explained. “I’m still figuring it out.”

However, for McKellar, her goal “is not to understand everything.” Instead, her goal “is to read it all.”

She then shared that the goal of reading the Bible is not to understand the book itself, but to “understand God better.”
