GAF Star’s New Kids’ Book Pairs Math and a Mother’s Love

Danica McKellar is putting a mathematical spin on the love between parents and children in her new book, I Love You 100: A Counting Book Full of Love.
“I’m SO excited to announce my brand new children’s book, I Love You 100: A Counting Book Full of Love!” McKellar announced earlier this month on Instagram. “It teaches how to count to 100, while providing a beautiful opportunity to express unconditional love to the child in your life.”
A description of the book reads, “As a mother and son move through their day, Mom counts up all the many moments and reasons that she loves her kiddo — while helping the reader learn to count up to 100! Whether the duo is playing with toy boats, swinging, or cleaning up messes, there is no shortage of love.”
“I Love You 100 is incredibly special to me because it was inspired by a game I played with my son when he was young: We would count to 100 together, alternating numbers and saying ‘I love you’ each time,” the author told PEOPLE. “I took the opportunity in this book not only to teach kids how to count to 100, but also to demonstrate a mother’s unconditional love to her child — no matter what the child’s mood.”
McKellar is known for her work as an actress, but after her stint on THE WONDER YEARS, she attended UCLA and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics. She even published an original theorem, “The Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem,” in the renowned Journal of Physics.

She has written several math books geared towards kids, including Good Night, Numbers, Ten Magic Butterflies and Bathtime Mathtime.
“I’m passionate about demystifying math concepts in entertaining ways for kids and encouraging them to embrace their smarts — especially girls, who too often feel discouraged in math,” the actress told PEOPLE. “I Love You 100 is my 12th McKellar Math book, and will mark 20 years of being a math author and inspiring kids of all ages. I’ve been blessed with countless success stories over the years, including meeting young women who have told me they used to be terrified of math but after reading my books have become engineers at NASA!”

McKellar added, “The importance of our children knowing deep in their gut how loved they are cannot be overstated, whether they are happy or sad, well-behaved or acting out…and that’s at the heart of this book.”
