Danny Gokey is encouraging people to get closer to God so that they can live “a life by design.”
“Your life was created for a purpose, and there is a plan, but if you don’t know what that purpose and that plan is, you will live a life by default instead of a life by design,” he said in a recent Instagram video.
Gokey then held up his Bible, which he compared to “an instruction manual” with “promises and guarantees.”
“But if you don’t know the promises and guarantees of that product, it might start malfunctioning,” he continued. “And if you’ve checked out this world recently, people are malfunctioning and doing some of the craziest things.”
Gokey likened this malfunction to taking a fish out of water.
“If you take a person out of the presence of God and out of the word of God, that person will start malfunctioning,” he said, then cited Psalm 139:16 — “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Gokey continued, “Your life has a book already written about it, but you’ve got to get to the promises and the guarantees for your success and your purpose. If you don’t fulfill your purpose, no one else can. Only you have what you have that God put uniquely in you to fulfill in this earth.”
“We need you,” he concluded. “Get close to God. Get in the environment of praise and worship…so you can live a life of success.”
Gokey is currently getting ready for his upcoming holiday tour with Natalie Grant.
“This collaborative show with two world-class vocalists will feature all of the timeless classics that you would expect at Christmas,” a description of the concert reads.
In an Instagram post about the tour, Grant wrote, “@DannyGokey and I are so excited to announce our 9th annual Celebrate Christmas tour is back this December!!!!!!! If you can’t tell, we always have an incredible (and hilarious) time together. And the Christmas season is absolutely our favorite time of year.”

Christian artists Danny Gokey and Natalie Grant have once again teamed up for their annual Christmas tour.
In a video posted on the singers’ social media pages, the pair announced the start of the tour on Dec. 5 while also sharing many laughs.
Gokey isn’t sure if he’s ready for it, but he’s “prayed up.”
This is the duo’s ninth year doing this tour, and even through all of the teasing, they “love it” and can’t wait to celebrate Christ’s birth again with their fans.
The 10-day tour will include stops at Virginia Beach, VA; Greenville, SC; Nashville, TN; Fayetteville, NC; Waukegan, IL (Chicago Area), Champaign, IL; Wabash, IN; and a TBA location on Dec. 14.
