FULL HOUSE Star Keeps ‘Positive Attitude’ as He Battles Cancer
By Movieguide® Contributor
FULL HOUSE star Dave Coulier is navigating a cancer battle with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and his wife Melissa is in the fight with him.
“He has some really tough days, and as the chemo has been accumulating it gets a little tougher and more difficult,” Melissa told WXYZ of her husband’s battle.
But despite such a serious diagnosis, Coulier remains positive and hopeful.
“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that in order to really fight it,” she shared. “Every morning, if he’s feeling up for it, we try to put on a song and do a little dance party with the dogs, because when you do feel good, you have to celebrate that too.”
Cancer isn’t something new to Coulier. In fact, he’s very familiar with it, having had multiple family members suffer from it.
“I think it’s just innately in him. He has had a lot of loss in his life when it comes to having to deal with cancer. He lost his mother, his sister, his niece. His other sister had it,” Melissa said. “I think for him, he takes every stride and really pulls strength from seeing the women that were so close in his life to powering through it, and he just wants to honor them.”
Coulier announced his diagnosis in November last year after going in for an upper respiratory infection. After getting PET and CAT scans done on his swollen lymph nodes, the doctors came back with the hard news.
“Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it’s called B cell and it’s very aggressive,’” the actor told PEOPLE.
“The first thing I said to them was, ‘Wait a minute — cancer?’” Coulier recalled. “[I was] feeling like I got punched in the stomach because it never happens to you. You always hear about it happening to someone else.”

The couple are still seeking joy. Several weeks ago, Melissa posted a sweet photo of her husband and herself on Instagram with a caption reminding people to enjoy the small moments in life.
“Between the appointments, the scans, and the weight of heavy words, there’s a soft, golden light,” she began. “It’s in the way coffee tastes sweeter on hard mornings, the way a hand squeezes yours just right, the way laughter sneaks in—uninvited but deeply welcome. It’s in the small victories: a good day, a deep breath, a moment where fear loosens its grip. Life isn’t just in the milestones or the headlines — it’s tucked gently into the spaces between. These little moments, they carry us. They remind us. They heal us. Here’s to noticing them. Here’s to holding them close.”
