SANTA CLAUSE Actor Warns Against Weed After He ‘Almost Died’

SANTA CLAUSE actor David Krumholtz says he “almost died” after suffering a reaction to smoking pot.

Krumholtz told Page Six he began smoking marijuana again after “a long break” and quickly became “a daily smoker.” This led to him developing a rare condition called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS).

Cedars-Sinai defines CHS as “a condition that leads to repeated and severe bouts of vomiting. It is rare and only occurs in daily long-term users of marijuana.”

“Marijuana has several active substances. These include THC and related chemicals. These substances bind to molecules found in the brain. That causes the drug ‘high’ and other effects that users feel,” the website continued. “Your digestive tract also has a number of molecules that bind to THC and related substances. So marijuana also affects the digestive tract.”

Krumholtz explained that CHS is “rare, [but] it’s becoming more and more prevalent yearly — like, numbers are doubling every year.”

“Essentially, they messed up weed,” he continued. “They made it too strong, and they don’t know why it’s happening. There’s a lot of theories.”

The actor explained that the brain has “cannabinoid receptors,” which can get “blown out,” which leads to CHS.

“You get wildly, dangerously nauseous,” the OPPENHEIMER actor said. “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I almost died a couple of times. I have unpaid emergency room bills up the wazoo. It’s really bad, It’s really dangerous. It’s as serious as a heart attack. It’s horrifying for those that suffer from it.”

Krumholtz added that he thinks “no one talks about” how dangerous weed can be “because it’s the friendly drug, it’s the drug that doesn’t kill you.”

“It’s a very addictive drug,” he concluded. “And now that it’s super strong, it’s really addictive.”

Krumholtz previously spoke to The New York Times about his CHS in 2024, telling the outlet he had lost 100 pounds and would spend 10 hours at a time in hot baths to temporarily relieve symptoms of the condition.

“I had numbness in my extremities, pain in my chest and my blood pressure skyrocketed,” he said, adding that one final episode almost caused him to lose his dream role in OPPENHEIMER, which is what encouraged him to give the drug up for good.
