Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, opened up about her recent health emergency.

In December, Erbert underwent an emergency craniectomy and cranioplasty.

Movieguide® reported:

“At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington D.C., my wife, Hayley, because disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition,” Hough wrote on Dec. 7.

“It’s been quite the journey. There’s been so much that has happened in two months. Lots of emotions, lots of just… all the things,” Erbert said in a recent Instagram video.

Hough added, “It’s been wild going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. But I have to say, throughout this experience, this woman has been unbelievable, and her perseverance and her acceptance of the whole situation, her strength, it’s been remarkable to witness firsthand. She really is a miracle, and it’s been miraculous, and it’s still a journey.”

“To this day, I still have really good days, and I have really bad days, emotionally and physically sometimes, but I’m doing so much better every single day,” Erbert said. “Truly, there is so much progress every day, and I’m so grateful for that.”

“Hough previously revealed that Erbert had been diagnosed with an intracranial hematoma, a collection of blood within the skull, which prompted the craniotomy,” Fox News reported.

She shared how when she woke up in the hospital, she could feel the love and prayers from everyone.

“There was a moment in the hospital where I had just woken up from my first surgery, and Derek sat at the bottom of my bed and was like ‘Babe, there’s so many people thinking about you, there’s so many people sending love to you.’ And I remember just looking at him and saying ‘You didn’t even have to tell me that. I can feel it, like I genuinely felt that through my body, in my heart, in my soul,’” she said.

She tearfully thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers, adding that this experience has given her a “new outlook on life.”

“Life is so precious. Just spend time with the ones you love,” she said. “Hold them close because you never know what could happen.”
