A fifth installment of DESCENDANTS is in the works! The Disney film is in production and is expected to release in 2026.
The DESCENDANTS movies focus on the children of many classic Disney characters, including Princesses Red, daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, daughter of Cinderella.
The new film will explore the consequences of altering “the fabric of time” and will see what “happily ever after” looks like for Red.
“The latest installment in the fantasy teen series. When Wonderland plays host to the Kingdom Cup Games, Red and Chloe Charming must fight to save everyone from an unexpected villain,” a synopsis reads.
The Disney DESCENDANTS Instagram account celebrated the announcement with a photo of the stars on set.
“Back at it ❤️,” the caption read. Fans were excited about the news of DESCENDANTS 5.
“LOVE the new looks 🔥” one user said. Another person added, “EEEEEEE💙” with excitement.

Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker reprise their roles as Princesses Red and Chloe, Deadline reported.
“The love for the DESCENDANTS franchise runs deep, and the incredible response to DESCENDANTS: THE RISE OF RED last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories,” Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, stated in a press release earlier this year.
She said the next installment will be “so special.”
“Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music and heart that make DESCENDANTS so special — brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team who continue to elevate this world in new and exciting ways,” she concluded.
Movieguide®’s review of the previous movie reads, “DESCENDANTS: THE RISE OF RED on Disney+ is another installment in the musical franchise about a school for the children of fairy tale heroes and villains. After the Kingdom of Auradon gave villains a second chance, the Queen of Hearts fled to Wonderland.”
The story continues, “Uma, the daughter of Ursula, the villainess of THE LITTLE MERMAID, is left in charge of the school. To make peace with Wonderland, she invites Red, the Queen of Hearts’ daughter, to attend the school. However, Red’s mother starts a coup. So, Red and Cinderella’s daughter use the White Rabbit’s pocket watch to travel back in time to stop her.”
Movieguide® noted that the film is “enjoyable,” but it does include “fantasy magic.” The film blurs the lines of good and evil. “The movie’s message about good and evil grows unclear when some characters do evil to achieve good,” Movieguide® concluded.
