Did Al Pacino Die? Actor Considers Eternity After Having No Pulse

By Movieguide® Contributor

Al Pacino shared his thoughts about death after recalling having no pulse after contracting COVID during the early months of the pandemic.

“I thought I experienced death. I might not have. I don’t think I have, really. I know I made it,” Pacino told PEOPLE while sharing a story from his upcoming memoir Sonny Boy. “I don’t think I died. Everybody thought I was dead. How could I be dead? If I was dead, I fainted.”

“And when I opened my eyes, there were six paramedics in my living room. There was an ambulance outside the door, and two of my doctors in those space suits [like] on Mars. I looked around and I thought, ‘What happened to me?’” Pacino continued.

During the time that he was unresponsive, paramedics found that Pacino had no pulse, meaning that he truly had died before coming back on his own. Rather than rejoice that his time on earth continued or share that he was looking forward to heaven, Pacino, unfortunately, revealed that he is confused about what will happen after he dies.

“It was gone. As Shakespeare in Hamlet says, ‘No more. To be, or not to be.’ And then he says, ‘No more.’ And it’s no more. Well, it’s not,” Pacino said. “I don’t know, who knows?”

Contrary to Pacino’s belief, the Bible is very clear that things aren’t just “no more” after we die. We were all made with eternity in us, and because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have been given eternal life. The first of the saints were even risen with Jesus, appearing before the people of Israel after Jesus rose from the tomb.

Thus, Christians do not have to fear death and face an unknown because they understand that through their faith in Jesus, they have been promised the gift of eternity with God.

Movieguide® previously reported about the afterlife:

Kirk Cameron recently interviewed author Lee Strobel about how Christians should view the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“He is who He claimed to be, the Son of God. It means He’s still alive today which means we can encounter Him and have a relationship with Him. It means that because He was resurrected, we can be resurrected and spend eternity with Him in heaven,” Strobel said.

A common objection back in the 1800s and earlier was that Jesus didn’t die. He just passed out from heat stroke and blood loss, then was placed in a tomb and later revived.

“It’s no longer articulated by skeptics because it just doesn’t make sense. First of all, we have no evidence of anyone ever surviving a full Roman crucifixion. Secondly, even a source as unbiased as the Journal of the American Medical Association, a secular scientific peer-reviewed medical journal, carried an investigation into the death of Jesus,” Strobel quoted. “Clearly the weight of the historical and medical evidence indicates that Jesus was dead even before the wound to his side was inflicted.”
