Disney Announces New Tron Video Game
By Movieguide® Contributor
Disney announced a new video game set in the Tron world is set to release on PC and console next year.
“In ‘Disney Tron: Catalyst’, players are introduced to Exo, a highly resilient and resourceful program with an incredible ability to initiate time loops,” reads an official description of the game. “With this newfound power, Exo takes on the overlords of a crumbling Grid all while evading Conn, a malevolent agent of CORE.”
“Exo must gain control over her mysterious abilities and uncover the unexplained ‘Glitch’ that threatens the Grid. As Exo, players will battle on-foot and on Light Cycle to complete missions and gain crucial insights that will help them on their quest,” the description continues. “While learning from her mistakes, Exo will also need to navigate warring factions to unlock new paths and uncover the secrets of the Arq Grid.”
The release of this video game coincides with Disney attempt to revive the franchise with a new generation. A new Tron movie was greenlit in 2023 and will star Jared Leto, Evan Peters and Jodie Turner-Smith. Unfortunately, the project was delayed by the dual strikes but is slated to release in October of 2025.
“The new film will spend more time in the real world,” per The Hollywood Reporter, and will “center on a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.”
The movie has been in some sort of development since the release of TRON: LEGACY in 2010 but was fully scrapped in 2015 before being picked up again last year.
Movieguide® has rated previous TRON movies positively as they feature strong Christian and biblical teachings. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the first movie reads:
This masterful science fiction epic is not only very creative in execution, with engaging characters, and high production values, but also its worldview is strikingly biblical and Christian with a few odd bits of humanist thought awkwardly presented. Although there is brief language, some action violence, and some light romance, the movie may be enjoyed by older children (with some caution) and adults alike.

TRON 3 is finally moving forward at Disney!
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Jared Leto, a longtime champion of the project, will star in the movie, with Joachim Ronning in talks to direct.
The movie will be titled TRON: ARES with Jesse Wigutow writing. It will continue the storylines from TRON and TRON: LEGACY.
TRON was released in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges as a video game designer who gets transported into his own game. It did not perform well at the box office, but it was praised for its innovative special effects.
