Disney Exec Calls FROZEN 3 ‘Epic’: ‘We Are Deeply Excited’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Disney is dropping hints about more installments of FROZEN.
“The team is hard at work,” Jennifer Lee, the Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation, said of the upcoming FROZEN 3. “We are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film.”
No plot details about the movie have been released, but Lee said she was “blown away” by the work the team has done so far. Deadline added that the movie is “‘so epic’ they might need to make another film.”
“All I’ll say is that last week, they carved out time for me to work with the creative team on it. And I’m blown away,” she shared. “I’m so excited. I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet. I might be doing nothing.”
FROZEN 3 is already confirmed, but could there be a fourth movie? Disney CEO Bob Iger thinks so.
“FROZEN 3 is in the works and there might be a FROZEN 4 in the works, too,” he said. “But, I don’t have much to say about those films right now. But Jenn Lee who created FROZEN, the original FROZEN and FROZEN 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”
Lee credits the franchise’s success to its timeless values. “I believe it’s both the story of familial love with these two sisters, and the idea of love conquering fear,” she explained.
Movieguide® previously reported on the upcoming FROZEN movies:
FROZEN 3 is still in the very early stages of development, but Disney Animation chief creative officer Jennifer Lee shared that she is already blown away by the movie’s direction.
While some fans worry that Disney is milking the franchise because the company is desperate for a win, Lee promises they will only stick with FROZEN as long as the story has more to give.
“Our philosophy is this, and it won’t change: If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it. And I’ll say with FROZEN, Marc Smith, who was our directory of story on FROZEN 2, came with an incredible idea for more FROZEN, and it’s worth it,” she explained.
The first FROZEN movie won a Movieguide® Award. A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:
FROZEN is one of Disney’s most entertaining, inspiring movies. It shows love isn’t about lust, but sacrifice. Elsa learns there’s a right and wrong. She also learns you can’t isolate yourself, but must help others. FROZEN has a very strong redemptive, moral worldview. It also has incredible animation and wonderful songs, with plot twists that advance the story in positive directions. FROZEN not only has an uplifting worldview, great story, and incredible animation. It’s also very funny.
