Disney+ Renews THE SANTA CLAUSES: ‘This Franchise Has Had A Lasting Impact’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Disney+ just announced they are bringing THE SANTA CLAUSES back for a second season!

Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell are set to reprise their roles as Santa Clause and Mrs. Clause. Allen will also continue acting as executive producer, alongside showrunner Jack Burditt.

“This franchise has had a lasting impact for so many families, truly becoming part of their annual holiday traditions,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said of the renewal. “Bringing it back as a series has been a true gift, and I’m grateful to our producing partners at 20th Television and, of course, Tim Allen and team, that we have yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Allen’s commitment to infusing Christian elements into THE SANTA CLAUSES:

Tim Allen recently shared how he pushed for Christian themes in Disney+’s new series THE SANTA CLAUSES.

The new show follows Allen’s character, Scott Calvin, as he looks for a replacement for his job as Santa Claus.

While the show has some magic elements to it, Allen was quick to say that he fought against any overt references to “otherworldly” creatures.

“It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins,” the actor said. “I said no, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday.”

He continued, “We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”

Allen also shared that the show’s writers found “a brilliant way” to incorporate religion into the show that will come in later episodes.

“It’s really wonderful. They took a chance, and we did it really well,” Allen said.

THE SANTA CLAUSES has received favorable reviews from Movieguide®. A portion of the review of Episode 2 reads:

The production, entertainment quality of THE SANTA CLAUSES, Chapter Two, is progressively better than the first episode. The modern twist to an older story is apparent in every way. Chapter Two also holds a perfect mix of old and new as it continues Scott’s saga being Santa Claus. Viewers undoubtedly will enjoy the overwhelming nostalgia. The second episode of THE SANTA CLAUSES has some moral, redemptive content promoting love, family, sacrifice, and redemption. However, it has a mixed pagan worldview overall, with references to magic and the idea that Christmas needs Santa Clause rather than Jesus being the Reason for the Season.
