Dolly Parton-Inspired Jewelry Collab Is a Throwback to This ’70s Hit

Kendra Scott is working “9 to 5” on a brand-new jewelry collection. Her Dolly Parton-inspired jewelry is on its way, and the southern duo teamed up to make it happen.

“I’ve been the biggest Dolly Parton fan since I was a little girl,” Scott told Southern Living. “I listened to her music obviously all the time, but I watched her movie 9 TO 5 when it came out. I was probably seven years old. And I watched it until I wore out the VHS. I love to tell that story because I was so inspired by Dolly. Everything that she embodied. Her grit, her determination, her, ‘This is who I am, take it or leave it.’ And I just love that strength.”

Scott decided to take that strength and create inspirational pieces based on Parton’s lyrics. She and the country legend met in 2022 at one of Parton’s concerts.

“Actually, I was in Austin doing a show and my promoter said Kendra Scott would love to meet you and I said, ‘Well I would love to meet her because I knew about her jewelry,’” Parton recalled. “And a lot of people just loved her line of jewelry. Anyway, when she came back, we just kinda got to talking and she started telling me that story about how she was a big fan of 9 TO 5. And I don’t know. I just related to her. I just loved her right away.”

“We just clicked,” Scott, who founded her brand in 2002, told PEOPLE. “We just really got along great, and she had known about my jewelry, and here we are. The next thing I knew, we were like, ‘Let’s go into business together. What do you think?'”

They decided to create something special together.

“I love all of her songs and I thought, [what] if we can design collections based on her songs? I found out that ‘Love is Like a Butterfly’ was written in 1974. It was a hit, yes, and it’s turning 50 years old and just by chance, I was born that year, 1974, so I too am having a 50th celebration this year. So, I thought, what a way to kick off this partnership together,” she said.

In a video posted to Instagram showcasing the jewelry, Scott wrote, “In celebration of both, Kendra and Dolly designed the 1974 Statement Necklace! It combines signature Kendra Scott silhouettes with Dolly Parton’s iconic butterfly and is a limited-edition collector’s item with only 1,974 pieces produced. Each one comes numbered, complete with certification, with Dolly receiving number 1 and Kendra receiving number 1,974.”
