Dolly Parton Reveals Why She Never Wants to Retire and Hopes for the Future
By Movieguide® Contributor
Despite her 77-years of age, country legend Dolly Parton hopes to continue to perform and work on new projects for many years to come.
“I would never retire. I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday, and hopefully one I’ve written,” Parton told radio host, Ken Bruce. “That’s how I hope to go. Of course, we don’t have much of a choice in that.”
While she never wants to retire, Parton later shared the three reasons she would give up her country music career.
“As long as I’m able to work, as long as my health is good, and my husband is good,” she said. “I mean, the only way that I would ever slow down or stop would be for [those] reason[s]. But in the meantime, I’m gonna make hay while the sun shines.”
Parton’s continued projects don’t stop with her music. When asked what else her future holds, she talked about productions she hopes to bring to light one day.
“I want to have my own network TV show where I can actually do a lot of new things and produce,” she said. “I want to have my own story called, ‘The Life of Many Colors,’ where I have a whole series about my life, stuff that people haven’t seen, or know, or heard about – and my people and where I come from, how I got to be, how and who I am.”
“But to really have the behind-the-scenes and the adventures of my life,” she added.
A television series about Parton’s childhood and personal life would likely include much of her faith. She has previously produced specials about her life which have boldly shared the gospel. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of one of these specials reads:
DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS is delightful and faith-inspiring throughout! Though some may consider it a sanitized reflection of its time and place, as a television special viewed by millions, it’s a refreshing celebration of the simple things that truly matter – faith, family and forgiveness. The movie discusses repentance, Christ’s resurrection and redemption in ways rarely seen on television. Only a light caution is advised for three rather light obscenities and an exclamatory profanity. Otherwise, DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS is a fantastic TV movie the whole family can watch together and enjoy.
In the near future, Parton has two projects culminating; a rock’n’roll album, “Rockstar,” and a new book “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” both of which are slated to release later this year.
