Dolly Parton posted a message to her loved ones after her husband, Carl Dean, died last week.

“This is a love note to family, friends, and fans,” Parton began on social media Thursday. “Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you’ve sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl.”

“I can’t reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me. He is in God’s arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you. – Dolly.”

Parton’s social media accounts announced Dean’s death on Monday.

“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82,” the post stated. “He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He was survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie.”

Parton added, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.”

In 2022, Parton shared she and Dean had a good marriage.

“I like it when people say, ‘How did it last so long?’ I say, ‘It’s [still] going,'” she shared. “You know, there’s a lot to be said about that. So, we’re not in each other’s face all the time. He’s not in the business, so we have different interests, but yet we have the things we love to do together.”

“So it was meant to be, I think. He was the one I was supposed to have and vice versa,” she added.

In 2023, Parton introduced her album, Rockstar, which was influenced by Dean—a rock ‘n roll fan.

“Most of these songs I chose because of Carl, and because I knew they were good songs — ’cause he knows good music,” she said.

At 79, Parton is still making music. She previously said, “I would only retire if I was ill or if my husband was ill and needed me.”

On Friday, she announced she dedicated her new song, “If You Hadn’t Been There,” to Dean.

“Carl and I fell in love when I was 18 and he was 23, and like all great love stories, they never end. They live in memory and in song, and I dedicate this to him. If You Hadn’t Been There,” she shared.
